Student Program

St. Elizabeth High School and College Student Program

Thank you for your interest in the volunteer program at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Volunteering can be a most rewarding and fulfilling experience that will stay with you throughout your life.

There are a few things you should consider before filling out your application:
  • The minimum age requirement to volunteer is 16 years old by June 1st.
    • High School students new to our hospital volunteer program are accepted into the volunteer program only in the spring for the summer program. Applications for the summer program are accepted December 26 through April 30 each year. After completion of one summer, they may be invited to apply for a volunteer opportunity during the school year.
    • College students are accepted year round.
  • Be certain that you are ready to make the minimum commitment to be a volunteer. An assignment is for one 2-4 hour shift each week. Length of shift depends on assignment.
    • Summer Program: June –August for eight out of eleven weeks
    • School Year Program: September –December and/or January-May
    • Evaluate your current obligations at home, school and work, and discuss this additional time commitment with your parents/employer. Patients and staff will be counting on you! It is important volunteers be dependable and treat their assignments seriously.
  • The hospital volunteer program cannot accommodate volunteers who need to accumulate just a few hours of volunteer time toward a school or community-service requirement. If you are interested in volunteering less than 32 hours, you may submit a suggestion for a project/fundraiser on behalf of St. Elizabeth Hospital. Some examples might include a magazine drive, fundraising event for patient needs i.e bake sale, etc. Please complete the project proposal form for consideration of your idea.
  • Volunteers at the hospital are limited to certain areas and responsibilities. Volunteers are expected to be flexible and accepting of different assignments according to the needs and requirements of the patients, staff and Volunteer Services department.
  • Bring your energy and enthusiasm. Volunteering offers the opportunity to learn and contribute in a professional, care-giving organization. Your smile and positive attitude will help you get the most out of your volunteer experience.
If you can meet the above requirements please complete the following forms:
Potential applicants will be contacted for an interview
  • At the interview, Volunteer Services will schedule two seperate appointments with an Affinity nurse for a health check which includes:
    • TB skin test(s)
    • An immunization check which includes a blood draw to test for immunities to mumps, measles, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
    • Drug screening
    • A seasonal influenza immunization (flu shot) or approved declination (based on facility)
  • The final step is to complete orientation and training
    • Affinity Health System orientation
    • Volunteer Services orientation
    • Assignment specific training

If accepted in the program this on boarding process will take approximately two weeks to complete.
