High School Student Volunteer Scholarships

The St. Elizabeth Hospital Volunteers provide two St. Elizabeth Hospital student volunteers a $500 scholarship to be applied toward their continuing education at an accredited college, university or technical school.

This scholarship is awarded to high school seniors with the highest number of volunteer hours who are current volunteers of St. Elizabeth Hospital and who are in good standing. No application is needed.

Claire Klaisner After having gone through my own challenging medical journey, I felt called to become a hospital volunteer so that I could be the driving force behind making people’s hospital experiences positive ones. Volunteering at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. Every day I came home from my shift, I knew I had made a difference and that spectacular feeling you get in your heart is completely indescribable.

Although I am not sure what I will be when I grow up, volunteering has showed me that I would thrive in a career where I am of service to others. I cannot thank St. Elizabeth Hospital and its volunteer staff enough for guiding me down that path. After graduation, I plan to attend North Central College in Naperville, Illinois where I will be pursuing studies in biological sciences and French.

Brianna Evers I began volunteering at St. Elizabeth Hospital when the brand new, state-of-the-art Fremont Tower opened in January of 2015. As healthcare is constantly changing, it was amazing to be a part of a historic era in my local community. The transition was a learning experience for all, but being a 17 year old volunteer during the transition was a life changing experience. After greeting and welcoming patients and family, and assisting them to patient rooms, I realized how rewarding it is to be of help to others. This convinced me to to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) during my senior year of high school. Not only did the patients and family take part in shaping my future career choice, but also the outstanding staff within the hospital. The nurses took time out of their busy schedule to learn about who I am and why I am a volunteer. After explaining my interests of becoming a nurse, they encouraged me to follow through with my career choice because they could envision me as an advocate in the healthcare field. Their words of advice gave me the confidence to lock in my decision of becoming a nurse. I am honored to receive the St. Elizabeth Hospital Volunteer Scholarship to continue my education in the fall of 2016. I will begin at St. Norbert College and then I will transfer to Bellin College, through their partnership, to obtain a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing.

American Society of Clinical Pathologist Board Certification Exam

St. Elizabeth Hospital Volunteers cover the fee for the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) certification exam each spring for all students enrolled in the School of Medical Technology program at Affinity Health System.  Upon passing the exam, the students will have the initials "MT, ASCP" following their name.  This means they have completed the undergraduate requirements at a university as well as completed a nine-month internship through our School of Medical Technology program.  The students will receive a check as reimbursement for this expense at their Affinity Health System graduation ceremony.  For information regarding this program, please see Clinical Laboratory Science Program
