Sophia Nunn

Volunteering at St. Elizabeth's pharmacy this past year has been an amazing experience. I learned so many ways, tasks, and procedures done in a hospital, and I am so happy that I was able to help unpack orders as well. Because of my time helping there, I am now certain that I want to pursue the career path of a hospital pharmacist. Helping others and learning new information are two passions for me, and next year at Butler University, I am excited to start this new path and doing what I can to positively impact others. Thank you so much to everyone in the pharmacy for your guidance and patience--I am so grateful!

While volunteering at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, I have been provided the opportunity to positively influence the lives of the hospital’s visitors through the various roles I have played, from ringing customers up at the One Stop snack shop, to providing wayfinding services at the front desk, and to manning the information desk on floor three of the Fremont Tower. Volunteering has showed me that even the small things you do can have large, positive impacts on other people.

I plan on attending UW Madison’s College of Letters and Science and hope to get accepted into Madison’s School of Medicine and Public Health further down the line. Although I am not sure what specific path in medicine I want to venture down, my time as a volunteer at St. Elizabeth’s hospital has reaffirmed my desire to better people's lives in any way I can. In the future, after lengthy and rigorous schooling at UW Madison, I hope to practice medicine in an environment similar to what St. Elizabeth’s provides for its patients, staff, and visitors.

American Society of Clinical Pathologist Board Certification Exam

St. Elizabeth Hospital Volunteers cover the fee for the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) certification exam each spring for all students enrolled in the School of Medical Technology program at Affinity Health System.  Upon passing the exam, the students will have the initials "MT, ASCP" following their name.  This means they have completed the undergraduate requirements at a university as well as completed a nine-month internship through our School of Medical Technology program.  The students will receive a check as reimbursement for this expense at their Affinity Health System graduation ceremony.  For information regarding this program, please see Clinical Laboratory Science Program
