Minimally Invasive Valve Replacement

Dr. Abouzelam at St. Elizabeth Heart Hospital was the first in Northeast Wisconsin to offer minimally invasive valve surgery as an alternative to traditional heart surgery. This technique uses a smaller three-inch incision resulting in less blood transfusions,  shorter hospital stay and faster recovery than the standard six- to-nine-inch incision, which completely divides the breastbone. Patients can be back to normal activities just two to four weeks after surgery, compared to six or eight weeks.

Valve Repair

"The national rates of valve repair are about 58 percent. At Affinity we repair almost 70 percent of all mitral valves, which puts us amongst the leaders in the state." says Dr. Abouzelam.
