Positron Emission Tomography / Computed Tomography

PET/CT combines two technologies into one single exam: positron emission tomography (PET), which displays inner body function; and computed tomography (CT), which displays anatomical information.

A PET scan detects changes in how your cells utilize nutrients such as sugar and oxygen. Since these functional changes take place before physical changes occur, a PET scan can help your physician make an early diagnosis.

The advantage of CT is its ability to take cross-sectional images of your body. These are combined with the information from the PET scan to provide more details of the changes in your body.

Affinity offers PET/CT scans at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, and Calumet Medical Center in Chilton.

Please note: We will check your blood sugar before you are injected with the radioactive material. If your blood sugar falls outside of an acceptable range, we may not be able to perform the exam.

PET/CT is available by appointment only.
