Urinary Incontinence

Bladder control problems don't have to control you. Affinity Urology can help.

Urinary incontinence is common, especially in women.  Aging and childbearing play a role in developing bladder issues.  Affinity urologists offer several treatment options to help you reclaim your freedom from bladder control problems.

Stress Incontinence

Stress incontinence is the inability to control urine leaks caused by shifts in abdominal pressure, such as when coughing. laughing, lifting or even walking.  Several treatment options are available.

Transvaginal tape surgery:  Affinity urologists offer an advanced, minimally invasive procedure to correct stress urinary incontinence in women, called transvaginal or transobturator tape surgery.  This outpatient procedure repairs the bladder and urethra, strengthening and restoring them to their original position in the pelvic area.

Urethral bulking agent injection:  Urologists inject a small amount of "bulking agent" to strengthen the bladder neck and reduce stress incontinence symptoms.

Pubovaginal sling:  This procedure corrects stress incontinence by reconfiguring the bladder neck's support.

Urge Incontinence

Interstim therapy is an advanced procedure for correcting urge incontinence, which is the chronic feeling of suddenly having to urinate and an inability to "hold it."  Interstim involves implanting a small device, called a neurostimulator, into the bladder.  The device sends mild signals to the bladder and pelvic muscles, regulating the urge to urinate.

If you suffer from bladder control problems but wish to avoid major surgery, these innovative treatments may be right for you.  Talk with your primary care doctor about a referral to Affinity Urology.
