Athletic Training

Evaluations and Treatment

Affinity Medical Group leads the field in providing comprehensive athletic training services to student athletes in the Fox Cities and Oshkosh. With over 20 years of experience, we understand the needs of our student athletes and are experts in promoting and protecting their health and well-being -- keeping them in the game and performing their best.

Affinity takes great pride in the tradition of athletic excellence of our high schools in Northeast Wisconsin. Our team of sports medicine professionals has a unique understanding of the mental and physical pressures that today's student athletes face. In fact, many of our providers are former high school athletes and have experienced firsthand the importance of building a solid foundation for staying active for life. We work together with our partner schools to instill in each athlete a foundation that is built on skill, good health, a positive attitude, and a commitment to playing smart and staying safe.

Licensed Athletic Trainers

Affinity's sports medicine outreach program consists of thirteen licensed athletic trainers. Each of these athletic trainers is a licensed health care provider by the state of Wisconsin and is nationally certified by the Board of Certification (BOC). As athletic trainers, they are responsible for the prevention, management, evaluation, and rehabilitation of injuries. Our athletic trainers provide many services to the community, as outlined below.

School and Community Coverage

Affinity partners with numerous Northeast Wisconsin schools and athletic organizations to maximize performance and safeguard their athletes' health, including:

  • Little Chute High School
  • Xavier High School
  • Oshkosh North High School
  • Oshkosh West High School
  • Lourdes Academy
  • Valley Christian High School
  • Winneconne High School
  • Fox Valley Stars Hockey
  • Oshkosh Ice Hawks Hockey
  • Approved clinical instructors for UWO Athletic Training Education Program

Quickness Utilization and Explosive Speed Training (QUEST and Futbol QUEST)

Affinity Health System provides two performance enhancement programs during the summer. QUEST (located in Little Chute and Oshkosh) is a six-week course designed to help athletes reach maximal performance capability and optimize athletic potential. The program incorporates power, flexibility, biomechanics and agility activities to improve performance and decrease the chance for injury. Futbol QUEST is a sister program focused on soccer and is located in Little Chute. Running Analysis and Clinical Evaluation (RACE)

The Running Analysis and Clinical Evaluation program was designed for all types of people including current high school/college athletes, competitive or recreational runners, and anybody who is active and places a lot of stress of their feet. The program involves an evaluation of a person’s running form and will address biomechanical, flexibility, and strength issues along with talking about proper shoe types. The program is great for alleviating symptoms of current injuries or for preventing future injuries from occurring.

CPR and AED Training

The athletic training staff is certified as Basic Life Support (BLS) instructors through the American Heart Association (AHA). The athletic trainers provide instruction in BLS to Affinity Health System staff (through the Affinity Learning Center) via classes and online test-outs. They also teach classes in basic CPR and AED skills to their contracted schools and other contracted community members/organizations who request this service.

Concussion Baseline Testing

Affinity Medical Group physicians and licensed athletic trainers are concerned about the current treatment options available to club, middle school and local athletic programs. As a result, Affinity Health System has partnered with ImPACT® in an effort to provide advanced concussion care to athletes throughout the Fox Valley.

This program offers a baseline ImPACT® test for any local athlete who does not already have access to a cognitive test through their club or school. These tests are to be done before a concussion occurs in order to establish a baseline or “normal” cognitive score. For more details, visit our Concussion Care and Testing page.

Power Yoga

Are you looking for a low impact way to work your body like never before? Our athletic trainers offer a power yoga class suitable for schools or community groups. It focuses on strength, balance, flexibility, and core work to improve your physical ability. Contact us for more information.
