Nancy Piencikowski Endowment for Enterostomal Therapy Excellence
In Memory of Nancy Piencikowski, RN
Mercy Medical Center, Mercy Health Foundation, and the community lost a dear friend upon the death of Nancy Piencikowski, RN, on April 15, 2009. She was a compassionate and caring person who began her health care career at Mercy while still in high school. Nancy later earned her LPN certification
and then her RN degree from the Mercy School of Nursing, all the while continuing to work at Mercy up until her last illness—a total of 46 years.
Nancy found her health care niche as an enterostomal therapist to the benefit of many, many area patients dealing with difficult-to-heal wounds, ostomies and incontinence. She was instrumental in developing the Wound Clinic at Mercy Medical Center and, through an endowed gift to Mercy Health Foundation, made sure that funding will always be available to train Mercy nurses in this specialty area.
As part of planning for retirement, Nancy and her husband John made a decision to include Mercy Health Foundation in their estate plans. A portion of their estate has been designated to establish the Nancy Piencikowski Endowment for Enterostomal Therapy Excellence. Their gift will provide continuing education grants for nurses interested in enterostomal therapy training and credentialing. Nancy utilized the David C. Leach Continuing Education Fund for Nurses to receive the necessary training to become board-certified as a Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse. Through additional continuing education opportunities, she kept the Wound Clinic at Mercy up-to-date on the latest techniques and products.
Memorial gifts to Nancy’s endowment fund will help grow the fund and allow Mercy nurses to continue her legacy of care to patients with a slow healing wound, an ostomy, or incontinence issues.
