Volunteer Spotlight: Lorraine Kalfas
Meet one of our exceptional volunteers.
By Papa Fall, student intern
This winter’s volunteer spotlight is focused on Lorraine Kalfas. Lorraine has been volunteering at Mercy since February of 2005. In July of 2012, Lorraine was awarded an Assisting Clinical Excellence Award (ACE) at Mercy Medical Center. The ACE award identifies one individual from an ancillary department who has assisted a clinical department in achieving the top 10 percent in a monthly patient satisfaction survey.
Lorraine was nominated by Dr. Zornosa and staff of Affinity Medical Group (AMG) Oakwood Internal Medicine/Nephrology using these kind words, “Lorraine responds promptly to requests for patient transport. She is friendly and courteous to patients and staff. She is organized and knows the ins and outs of the hospital. We value her services to our department. Thank you for your contributions to our service excellence success.”
“I love my job, I love my patients, and I love the people who work here,” says Lorraine. When asked what inspires her to stay active with volunteering, Lorraine stated that, “the greatest exercise in the world is working in transport.” When she is not volunteering, Lorraine enjoys reading, being with her family and supporting her Chicago Bears. Her service is greatly appreciated. No matter what she is called upon to do, Lorraine persists until the job is done.
