Event raises $63,000 for breast biopsy equipment

APPLETON, Wis. – More than $63,000 was raised at the St. Elizabeth Hospital Community Foundation 14th annual Women’s Golf & Luncheon Benefit Aug. 7. Proceeds will be given to the St. Elizabeth Hospital Breast Center.
“We had a record-breaking year,” said Barbara Stack, executive director of the St. Elizabeth Hospital Community Foundation. “In addition to being able to purchase a bedside Digital Faxitron, we raised enough money to launch an endowment for Women & Families. This new endowment will provide long-term funding for the unique health care needs of women and families throughout the Fox Cities.”
The bedside Digital Faxitron is used to scan a breast biopsy sample before it is sent to the lab to ensure the sample represents the area in question before it is sent for analyzing. Without this equipment, the samples are now being X-rayed with traditional methods and takes about five minutes to verify the sample. The Faxitron reduces this time to virtually seconds, decreasing the amount of discomfort and anxiety the patient experiences on the biopsy table.
More than 200 women participated in the 14th annual Golf & Luncheon Benefit, emceed by WROE radio personality Chuck Lakefield and NBC26 anchor Stacy Engebretson. Jane Birr, author and life coach, shared a motivating message on health and fitness. The luncheon also included an extensive silent auction, and two 2006 Green Bay Packers season tickets were raffled off at the event. Terrie Pohjola and Beth Nemecek were co-chairs for the event.
