Two Affinity Health System hospitals receive radiation oncology accreditation

MENASHA, Wis.- Two Affinity Health System hospitals’ cancer centers, the Michael D. Wachtel Cancer Center at Mercy Medical Center and the St. Elizabeth Hospital Cancer Center, have been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a survey in April 2011 by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The survey analyzes the quality of a facility’s personnel, equipment, treatment planning and treatment records, as well as patient safety policies, quality control/quality assessment activities.
"Receiving this accreditation is a credit to our entire multidisciplinary cancer team," said John Fuller, manager of Affinity Health System cancer centers. "Our entire team is committed to providing the highest quality of personalized care to all of our cancer patients."
The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
