Inpatient Rehabilitation

Our regional Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation program located at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh serves patients from Appleton, Oshkosh and the surrounding areas.

Conditions We Treat

This program provides a 24-hour therapeutic setting and is dedicated to rehabilitating people who have experienced significant functional problems due to:

  • stroke
  • spinal cord injury
  • amputation
  • multiple trauma
  • brain injury
  • orthopaedic conditions
  • neurologic disorders
  • and other conditions.

All services involved in this intensive therapy are provided within our specialized inpatient unit.

A Team Approach

Rehabilitation is different from other services in its approach to patient care.  Patients are admitted to the inpatient rehabilitation unit to regain the independence lost as a result of illness or injury.  The patients in our program work with the rehabilitation team in setting goals to achieve maximum independence.  The team includes:

  • the medical director
  • rehabilitation psychologist
  • physical therapists
  • occupational therapists
  • speech-language pathologists
  • nurses
  • a rehab social worker
  • and the patient.

In addition, when further care is called for, we have access to Affinity’s full spectrum of resources.

Patients and Families Get Involved

The inpatient rehabilitation unit is a self-help environment, established with our patients’ best interests in mind.  Patients and families help develop the treatment plan and put it into practice.  We hold regular educational sessions with patients and their families to encourage everyone’s active participation in the rehabilitation treatment process.  Families are encouraged to participate in therapies with the patient to promote a better understanding of their loved one’s progress.
