Caring Companion Program
The transition 'home' can be difficult. You can help make it easier.
The Mercy Medical Center Caring Companion Program helps patients in Winnebago County make the transition from hospital or nursing home to home again. The program matches trained volunteers with patients. Volunteers provide temporary assistance to reduce a patient’s sense of isolation, offer reassurance and help people live as independently as possible. The Caring Companions volunteers do not provide hands-on personal care or transportation.
Referrals
Referrals for Caring Companion volunteers may come from the patient, family, friends, hospital staff, doctor or clergy.
Volunteer Services
Caring Companion volunteers can run errands, go shopping, make phone calls, perform light housekeeping, provide companionship and deliver equipment such as walkers or wheelchairs.
Funding
This is a free service provided by Mercy Medical Center volunteers. Donations may be made to the Mercy Health Foundation.
