What is trauma?
Trauma is an injury from physical force, such as motor vehicle accidents, falls, gunshots, fires and burns.
Three Expert Trauma Centers
Trauma care requires training, coordination and experience. All three Affinity Health System hospitals – in Oshkosh, Appleton and Chilton – earned designations as trauma centers by the state of Wisconsin.
Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh and St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton are designated Level III trauma centers. This means they have resources on site for emergency surgery and intensive care for trauma patients. Calumet Medical Center is a designated Level IV trauma center. All of our trauma centers are skilled at assessing and stabilizing trauma patients, with resources to transfer patients to other hospitals when severe injuries call for further emergency care.
